Privacy Statement

Most of the information we collect about you comes directly from you—for example, the information you provide in new account forms, other account documentation you complete, or agreements you enter into in order to receive our products and services that may describe your income, assets, and investment objectives. In addition, we maintain records of each of your transactions and holdings with us.

Under certain circumstances, we also may receive information about you from other affiliates in the RBC Financial Group, in accordance with that affiliate’s privacy policies.

In addition, we may obtain information about you from a consumer-reporting agency or from other parties (for example, your credit history or other facts relating to creditworthiness). We may also access public databases to obtain or verify information about you.

We do not sell information about our current or former customers, and, except as permitted by law, we do not disclose such information to third parties. Some examples of legally permitted disclosures to third parties are as follows:

• To unaffiliated service providers as necessary to process your business.

  These include companies that assist us in administering your accounts. For example, we may transmit your account and transactional information to the company that prints your account statements. Service providers in this category are prohibited by agreement from distributing information about you and may only use the information for the narrow purpose of providing the services we request.

• To companies who perform marketing or research services on our behalf or with whom we have joint marketing agreements.

  These include companies performing marketing services on our behalf, such as a company that assists in a broad mailing of materials advertising our products or services or a company performing research on our behalf that assists us in evaluating our customer service quality. Joint marketing arrangements also are included, such as an agreement where another financial institution offers a product or service jointly with a member of RBC Financial Group, such as RBC Visa or American Express. These companies also must limit their use of the information to the purpose for which it was provided.

• To third parties when required by law or regulation.

  These include government agencies and others to whom we are required by law to provide information. Examples include responses to a subpoena, court order or regulatory demand.

• To other parties as authorized by you.

  You may direct us, for example, to send your account statements and confirmations to a third party.

We may share information about you within the RBC Financial Group, as permitted by law, to allow us to more efficiently manage our relationship with you, including keeping you informed of the full range of financial services that the RBC Financial Group has to offer. Sharing of certain types of information with our affiliates, including our transactions and experiences with you, is useful for us to conduct business and is permitted by law. The better we know you, the better we can serve your needs. For example, information RBC learns about you in the account opening process may avoid duplication of certain information requests when you open an account with an affiliate. We also may share information we receive from you and other sources such as your address, telephone number, email address, and date of birth, as well as information about your transactions with us or RBC Financial Group affiliates, such as your account balance and payment history.

We consider all information we have about you to be confidential, including the fact that you are a RBC Financial Group customer (unless you tell us otherwise). Your information will only be handled in the manner described in this notice. We restrict access to information about you to those employees and authorized agents who need to know that information. We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with federal standards to maintain the confidentiality of your information.

You may choose to instruct us not to share with other members of the RBC Financial Group certain “creditworthiness” information.

“Creditworthiness” information includes information concerning your eligibility for credit and information obtained from consumer reports. Please note that any such instruction to us not to share creditworthiness information will not prohibit us from sharing information regarding our transactions or experiences with you or other information that is permitted by law for us to share.

This choice may be made now or at any time in the future. For customers holding joint accounts with us, we will accept a decision from either individual. This decision will apply to all parties named under the account. Please remember that we will continue to protect your personal information regardless of your choice.
